Let's be honest, airports aren't normally the most fun place at the best of times, let alone if you're delayed by bad weather, strikes or leaves on the line (or is that just trains?). But they needn't be a place for the humdrum and clock watching! That's why we've put together our super serious list of fun things to do at the airport to keep yourself entertained before you take to the skies.

1. Become a plane-spotter

Most terminals are built with plenty of vantage points to view the airport's comings and goings. Unleash your inner travel geek!

2. Scour duty free

You'll never find a bigger bag of Haribo or bar of Toblerone than those on offer in duty free.

3. Eat a whole Toblerone

Go on, you're on holiday.

4. Regret eating a whole Toblerone

But remember you're only human.

5. Practice people-watching

Why bother with soap operas when you've got the real thing right in front of you?


6. Spot the celeb

Essentially point 5 on expert difficulty. I once saw Jedward at Glasgow Airport. Beat that.

7. Update your social media
Make the most of the free wifi and trawl your news feed.

8. Learn the lingo
With apps like Dualingo making easier than ever to pick up a second language, there's no better time to put your multilingual cap on and get learning.

9. Relax in an Airport Lounge

Comfy chairs, a glass of fizz, and peace and quiet. The hardest part is leaving to catch your flight.

Whether you're up for an early flight or burning the midnight oil, it's always a good time to grab a brew.

Not only might you find hidden treasures, but it's also a good excuse to bin those McDonalds Monopoly stickers from three years ago.

Speaking of wallets, if yours is still chock full of dollars, euros or shillings, make sure to get rid of them before you hop on your flight.

Not only will it leave you with a cool video momento, but you might become Youtube famous!

When all else fails, looking up funny pictures is a sure fire way kill time.
